Halton Parenting Directory, January to September 2012 Now Available!
Information and programs help parents strengthen skills and gain knowledge
Burlington, Ontario – The Halton Parenting Directory is a comprehensive listing of parenting programs and workshops aimed at helping parents and other caregivers access learning opportunities, support and information. Produced by Our Kids Network, the directory covers January to September 2012 and is available online at www.ourkidsnetwork.ca. Printed copies will also be delivered to families through school boards and community agencies mid-January.

Children’s Rights More Important than ever on National Child Day
BURLINGTON – Sunday, November 20 is National Child Day and Our Kids Network is encouraging all sectors of society to put children first by celebrating and respecting children’s rights. The Canadian Child Care Federation has selected Article 24, the right to enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of health, as the theme for National Child Day this year.

with the same wealth of information, resources and insight

Oakville, Ontario – A remodeled and refreshed ourkidsnetwork.ca was launched on Monday, May 16 at Halton Region offices. Our Kids Network (OKN) representatives, Sheldon Wolfson, a member of the OKN senior executive group and Commissioner of Social and Community Services Halton Region and Beth Williams, communications manager, took the group on a virtual tour of the newly organized website.

How can parents of 10 to 16-year-olds really help
when their teens seem to be changing so much and less in control?

Burlington Ontario – A free forum, for parents and caregivers of 10 to 16 year-olds, will answer these and other questions and will give parents the opportunity to learn about how brain growth and development during this stage affects behaviour. They can register at www.ourkidsnetwork.ca for the FREE forum (A New Kind of Parenting) which will be held at the Operating Engineers Conference Centre, 2245 Speers Rd. in Oakville on February 8, 2011 from 7 to 9 p.m.

The Developmental Assets are 40 positive experiences and personal qualities that children and youth need to grow up healthy, caring, and responsible. The more assets a child has, the more likely they are to do better in school and make healthier decisions. They are also less likely to engage in risk-taking behaviour, such as experimenting with drugs or alcohol, or early sexual activity.
