Your Kids and Our Kids Network, Aldershot Hub

One meaning for the word Hub is ‘a place in the community for people to meet.’  At the Our Kids Network Hub in Aldershot meetings are held with two to 25 people almost daily. Meetings are always in the interests of children, youth, teens and families. Meetings result in actions. Members commit to partner with each other to enhance or add programs for children. Some partners are from community organizations, others are neighbours.

Our partners discuss ways to improve opportunities to help children thrive in our local community. We know that some…

    • families in Aldershot have financial struggles

    • children are having problems with self esteem or bullying

    • high school students need information regarding community
      service hours

    • parents worry that their preschoolers may need preparation
      for kindergarten

    • children enjoy afterschool programs

    • schools want information about community resources

    •
new parents are concerned about raising their children
      and teens to be happy, healthy, responsible citizens.

Our Kids Network at the Aldershot Hub is concerned too!

Some of the initiatives we have already started and/or support include:

    • a low cost breakfast program for high school students;

    • mother daughter self defense course for young girls and their moms;

    • a fitness camp held during March Break;

    • the availability of food for families every Tuesday thanks to
      Food for Life;

    • Fresh Food boxes are available on the third Tuesday of each
      month at a very reasonable price; money and orders are to be
      received two weeks in advance.

    • an After School Tutoring Program at Holy Rosary;

    • Food for Thought programs in all of the local schools;

    • gently used free clothing for children and youth that has been
      donated to the Compassion Society is available in the Hub;

    • A representative from the Region of Halton is in the Hub every
      Tuesday. They can answer all of your questions about children’s
      services, child care and subsidy, Ontario Works, housing, and other
      issues. Or call on Tuesdays at 905 635-0788.

    • we will be repeating our successful 4 weeks of summer Camp
      in August;

    • plans are underway to offer piano lessons in the Hub!
